Footprints, a selection of historical photographs and other images relating to South Auckland and the Counties-Manukau area.  Images range from the 1870s to the present day Locations range from Otahuhu in the north to Mercer in the south, and all places in between, areas formerly covered by Manukau City, Papakura District and Franklin District.

Photographs have been donated by clubs, voluntary organisations, local historical societies,  and individuals. Our largest collection is the Courier Collection, kindly donated by Fairfax Media.

Māngere Arts Centre - Ngā Tohu o Uenuku 29 September  - 24 October, 2015

The Māngere Frequencies project was exhibited alongside THE MĀNGERE STORIES PART 1 an Auckland Libraries exhibition that featured local kaumatua (respected elder) the late Maurice WilsonHis oral history recording was heard aloud through speakers accompanying 40 historical photographs from the South Auckland Research Centre Footprints Collection.  The images and recordings were reflections, in particular of Maurice's local Marae and the historical site Otuataua Stonefields in Ihumatao.

EXHIBITION

While working with the school pupils, in particular out in the field Anonymouz and Tanya Muagututi'a took photographs to record their progress.  The MĀNGERE FREQUENCIES exhibition featured the best photographs, the Māngere Poem and the soundscapes.   The soundscapes can be viewed in the Schools page here.
